He baptized large crowds on the banks of the Jordan River and he was the one preaching of the Kingdom of God. He was the one who baptized Jesus Christ. As a Hebrew Prophet, John spend his life challenging sinners, calling for repentance and preaching for God’s justice.John the Baptist was killed by Herod Antipas because if fear that John would raise a rebellion. Herod’s step daughter, Salome, is said to have asked for John’s head on a platter and his beheading is mentioned in the Gospels. The Christian Church refers to John as the precursor of Jesus Christ as he announced Jesus’ coming.
